Unleash Your DIY Crafting and Creativity – Rebatch Leftover Soap!

Soap RebatchingLet’s Start Making Recycled Soap Balls!!
What is rebatching soap?

Re-batching or hand milling is the act of reprocessing a previously made batch of soap. This is accomplished by grating up the soap, adding other ingredients, melting it, and remolding it.

Your ancestors likely saved bits of soap, putting them into a mesh piece of fabric and melting them together so none of it would go to waste. While this is one way to recycle bits of soap, another, more user-friendly and aesthetically pleasing method is to do some re-batching and make recycled soap balls. With the addition of a little essential oil and some fragrance, these recycled soap balls are sure to be a hit among your friends, family or customers. These are great to use on their own or as embeds and toppers for other soaps, so have some fun and get creative with them!

Ingredientsessential oils and fragrances

Gather up your bits of leftover soap from previous batches. It’s okay if the leftover bits have some color, fragrance or essential oils already in them.

You’ll also need a grater, some warm water and an antibacterial essential oil. Try the Tea Tree Essential Oil by Chemistrystore.com™, which offers a fresh scent as well as powerful anti-bacterial properties.

Other great essential oils to try include lemon, sweet orange or cinnamon, all of which have antibacterial properties. Now you are ready to mix!

Heat required amount for batch of lip balm base to 150F and add 5% Beeswax.
If you are adding flavor oil, add at a rate of 1/2 – 2% by weight.  Stir to blend flavor oil completely.

Begin filling your lip balm tubes about 2/3 full with a Pipette.  The tubes will be easy to pour into when using the lip balm tray.  Place tubes in refrigerator until a skin forms on top and the center begins to sink in.

Remove the tubes from the refrigerator and fill the balance of the tube until it is domed on top.

Place them back in the refrigerator and let them harden completely.

Another way without Beeswax

You can find more detailed instructions for using lip balm base here, but it’s really so simple! It takes very little base and even less mica to create enough lip balm to last awhile or give as gifts. This small batch filled six of our 2 ml lip balm pots and one 10 ml natural pot!

Don’t Forget the Containers and Packaging Appeal!packaging & containers soap making supplies

When packaging soap made for men, the simpler the better. Clean-cut, simple packaging will showcase the product itself and not detract from its features. Stick with basic soap shapes as well, with solid rectangular blocks or substantial ovals as the two leading options. A massaging bar can also be a good choice for hardworking men who need a little extra relaxation. Clear cellophane or shrink wrap around the bar, some twine, and your label make for a sharp-looking, manly bar of handmade soap. Of course, you’ll also want to make sure any packaging you choose fits in with the rest of your products.

DIY Men’s Skin Care Products – Aftershave Recipe!

shavingStop suffering through your aftershave!

Aftershave is a part of almost every man’s skin care routine, but many commercial aftershaves are made with alcohol and burn on freshly-shaved skin. Whether your’e a man looking for a better way to shave or need the perfect gift for a man in your life, this DIY aftershave is easy to make and easier to use. It actually soothes your skin with the cooling, calming power of witch hazel and essential oils!

Keep it simply and easy!!!DIY aftershave for men

We provided this recipe several weeks ago!  It was such a huge hit even with the ladies!!! They shave too!!

DIY Skin Care for Men Aftershave Recipe!

Ingredients:

Equipment needed:

Step 1: Measure your essential oils

Measure out your essential oils into the bowl using the scale. We chose peppermint andpatchouli, but you can use any oil combination you like or even a single essential oil. Tea treeis another great option as it helps prevent acne and ingrown hairs.

Step 2: Add the fragrance modifier

Add the fragrance modifier to the essential oils and stir. Fragrance modifier acts as an emulsifier and helps keep the essential oils blended with the witch hazel and glycerin so the mixture stays clear. You should use roughly 3 to 4 times as much fragrance modifier asessential oils or fragrance, so if you make a larger batch of aftershave, make sure you scale up accordingly.

2/22 Weekly Roundup – DIY Men’s Skin Care Products!

Hey this week we are going to give it to all you Guys out there!!…it’s time for some real talk about your skincare routine!!DIY skin care for men

That “just got out of bed” look isn’t going to be cute forever.

It is no different for women as it is for men.  Beauty and skin care maintenance can be very expensive! The good news is that you don’t need to drop tons of cash to treat your hair, skin and body…DIY!!! Yes you can and we can help you here at the Chemistry Store!!

When it comes to specialty soaps, women aren’t the only ones looking for an interesting, unique, or natural product to DIY!!  Handmade soaps can be marketed to men too. While the ingredients and scents that appeal to women may not appeal to all men, there are ways to customize handmade soaps for men to enjoy and look forward to using each day.

More than Just Soapbody bath soaps

While soap is sure to be a big part of your line, there are plenty of bath and body products men use that aren’t just bars of  soap. Consider a line of soothing aftershaves, lotions, shampoos, or conditioners. Many men also love colognes and beard products like beard oil and balm. Some of the same ingredients that are great in men’s soaps also work well in other men’s products.   You can actually offer some of the same scents to boost your sales, if you sell, or as matching products work well as gifts!

Manly Soap Scentsessential oil perfume

Although some men enjoy floral scents, more often men prefer herbal, spicy scents in natural products. Selecting an array of manly scents will draw in more customers, including men shopping for themselves as well as women shopping for their brothers, sons, boyfriends and husbands. Consider a strong scent like patchouli essential oil or fragrance or a woodsy scent like cedarwood essential oil or forest pine fragrance oil. Men may also like “tough” scents like Cuban tobacco or bay rum and others enjoy seeing scents they’re familiar with like Whitewater Rush BBW Type, Mahogany Woods BBW Type, or Axe Kilo Type fragrances. Experiment with different fragrances and essential oils until you find the right one!

Now This week!!DIY weekly calendar

You will be able to make your own inexpensive skincare products!

We are going to show you some DIY recipes that are customized just for you. Don’t be surprised when your lady friends steal all your fancy DIY stuff for themselves.  Often you will find that the majority of the Fragrance Oils and the Essential Oils are liked by women and men!  We warned you!  Now let’s have some fun!!

Cyclomethicone can be used in a variety of ways. This clear liquid is a silicone with absolutely no odor, unlike alcohol based body sprays! It mixes with FO’s or EO’s beautifully with no clouding or separation! It has a silky smooth feel and is dry, not greasy. It is commonly used in personal care products such as lotions, creams, deodorants, conditioners, make-up, hair sprays, etc. Can safely be used in PET or HDPE plastic bottles. PVC is not recommended. Small bottles with fine mist sprayers are recommended (this product goes a long way and a small bottle will last awhile!). This stuff is truly amazing; once you try it you’ll be hooked!

Valentine’s Day Last Minute DIY Gifts – French Clay Mask

Make a French Clay Mask in 5 Minutes!!!!

French clay is completely natural and unscented!

Four colors each packed with benefits for the skin!  GreenPinkRed and Yellow.French Green Clay

French Clays are known for their ability to absorb oils and dirt in facial masks, cosmetics, soaps, and acne preparations.  The absorbent powers leave the skin feeling smooth and free of excess oils, while revitalizing complexion and tightening pores.  Being naturally colored montmorillonite, these French clays are sun dried and contaminate free.

Using French clay for skin applications is a tried and true remedy in particular for people with oily skin. Naturally absorbent, this desirable skin remedy cleans, tightens, and renews skin cells. With French clay you can prepare masks and body applications, but there are a few precautions to keep in mind when mixing, using, and storing this natural substance.French Pink Clay

How to Use French Clay (any color)

A typical spa treatment, people use French Clay primarily as a facial or in bathwater. The mineral content of the clay–which can include magnesium, potassium and calcium, among other properties–is said to help draw toxins out of the body, remove dead skin cells and provide a deep cleansing for the pores to leave the skin smooth and refreshed. It’s relatively inexpensive if you stay away from the ultra-fancy brands.

French Clay Yellow French Clay Red

Instructions:

  1. Place 2 tbsp. French clay into a bowl
  2. Pour 1/2 cup warm water into the bowl and mix the clay until it begins to form a paste. You may need to add a little more water if the mixture is too thick. You should be able to spread it easily onto your skin.
  3. Moisten your face with warm water and pat dry with a towel.
  4. Spread the clay onto your skin with your fingertips so its evenly distributed. Be careful not to get it into your eyes.
  5. Let the clay sit for 10 to 15 minutes. As it dries, it will start to feel a little tight on your skin. You don’t have to let it dry completely; 15 minutes should do.
  6. Rinse the clay completely off your face with warm water.
